Last night Marc came over with a bootleg of My Neighbor Totoro that he found in Chinatown, which meant I could see it in the original Japanese with English subtitles, and in widescreen format. I'd been holding out on seeing Totoro for years because the only North American dvd release currently available is a crappy full-screen English dub that would have destroyed my soul. So finally my patience was rewarded with Marc's illegal Chinese copy, and oh, it was worth the wait. I liked it as much as I liked Spirited Away, which is an awful lot. And now I can tempt myself daily with all the imported Totoro merchandise that's available online.

Yes! Subtitles are always better. I still wonder from time to time, that if I saw a Totoro skipping down the street with a little handkerchief tied to the end of a stick, well...HOW HAPPY WOULD YOU BE?
I would wet my pants with glee.
That's a good reason for me to buy the expensive Totoro toys, now that I think about it, because they would increase my overall daily happiness. It's like investing in special lights to combat Seasonal Affective Disorder. Just like that. Yah.
P.S. did you recognize me in that picture?
But of course.
