Things of Late

Last week I phoned 9-1-1 for a guy who'd fallen over in front of the Blockbuster and busted his chin open. He'd had a seizure and couldn't talk. His Discman was broken and there was blood on his copy of MAMA MIA! I sat with him (and Marian, and Happy) until the ambulance got there, and then we left.

After an unusually inspiring conversation with the man who cuts my hair, I bought tickets to fly to Montreal next week and stay with Sachi for five days.

I've uploaded pictures of today's romp (gambol, even) at the dog beach. Go see.

Tonight, outside of Zulu records, I was admonished by a very self-righteous woman for leaving Happy in my car with the windows up. I think the woman might just have been an angry person, if you want to know the truth, because the sun had gone down (it was 8pm), the car was parked in deep shade, and I'd been in the store for about five minutes. The woman told me, with an awful lot of quiet disdain, that it didn't matter that I'd only been in the store for five minutes, because I might forget to lower the windows another time when it was hot. Which, really, is a brilliant point. Very helpful.

Lori Archer phoned my mother, out of the blue. Remember her? She's the childhood friend I'd lost track of and kept looking around for, for ages. Go figure.

I hate shit like that. 'Righteous' indignation. It makes me yell at people. heh.

Good pictures. Very fancy.

Yes, people are stupid when it comes to dogs in cars. I am so excited for the nernies storming Montreal I could spit! Er. Is that an expression of excitement? It is now.

I hear you, sister. But the lady was less interested in looking out for Claire's dog, and more interested in feeling self-righteous. I mean, it's definitely a good sentiment, and I think about our neighbors' golden fairly often. But she pretty much didn't listen to Claire at all, even after Claire had been very gracious, and had explained that she was well aware of the issue, and acted accordingly under almost all other circumstances, and stuff. THAT was the truly provoking part.

None taken, Carolyn. I didn't get this across in my post, but the reason it really bothered me was that I am one of those people that worries about dogs being left in hot cars, and it is a serious problem. I just didn't think there was any threat to Happy's well-being and comfort in that particular situation, hence the closed windows. And like Marian said, the woman seemed more intent on a power trip than on spreading the word of dog safety.

Honestly, I don't think she'd have been nearly so aggressive if I was her age, or a man. She saw a chance to get in someone's face with her personal crusade, without repercussions, and took it. I kept saying to her "I understand what you're saying", and she kept reacting as if I was some young punk, spitting in her face and microwaving a puppy for kicks.

But hey, at least she's trying to use her (super bitch) powers for good? ^_^
